Les Freres Gerome produced some of the most elegant and distinctive guitar models in the world of Manouche guitars. This small D hole model was one of the most popular designs. From the smooth curve of the cutaway, to the beautifully arched back and Gibson-esque head stock, this guitar is sure to turn some heads. It’s had a few cracks repaired in the top and back over the years, but the sound and playability are spot on. The short scale length gives a looseness to the string tension, making chords and single note lines fall easily beneath the fingers. The sound is very balanced, with a strong, present bass, warm mids, and rounded full highs, reminiscent of Django’s early recordings on his short scale Maccaferri. The 70 years of ageing give a dry, direct, barking response to any input by the right hand. This guitar speaks easily and plays like butter, making it ideal for both rhythm and lead playing.
