Moustache (Thijs van der Harst) is a well-established luthier from Holland. He is known for his fine stringed instruments and his attention to detail. For over twenty years Moustache has been focused on producing mainly gypsy jazz guitars, and it shows. The last couple of years Thijs has expanded into Mandolin and Mandola production; the perfect medium for his exacting craftsmanship to shine through.
Thijs is also a regularly seen at his instrument stand on the island of Samois-sur-Seine during the Django Reinhardt festival.
This guitar is called “Selmer Hybrid”. The term Hybrid owing to the combination of both Selmer and Maccaferri designs. This guitar has a D shaped sound hole a la Maccaferri, for major volume production and depth, matched with the longer scale length and 14 frets to the body ( Selmer style ), which makes it ideal for solo and rhythm playing alike. The fretboard has a small radius which makes it extremely comfortable for the left hand to barre chords and make fast arpeggiated runs, and the response is fast and clear. Structurally, the top exhibits the classic pliage or bombe of the selmer line; besides adding to the volume, it’s a pleasing design aesthetically.
Thijs van der Harst did some customization on this guitar and installed a “Skyinbow” high-quality pickup for a pure acoustic sound with great feedback rejection. This guitar is ready to gig!
